Iran joins the list of states that prohibit travel to and from South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Eswatini, following the discovery of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

The decision was announced by the head of the Center for Infectious Diseases of the Iranian Ministry of Health, Mohammadmehdi Gouya. "Iranians traveling from these countries - he underlined - will have to test negative in two tests. Any trip to these countries is also prohibited".

In Iran, the latest data on the pandemic, updated to yesterday, showed a drop in victims (86) and cases. The total deaths are 129,462 and the infections 6,102,056. Just over half of the population, 46 out of 83 million inhabitants, has already received two doses of the vaccine.
