At least 89 confirmed victims of the devastating fire that destroyed the Hawaiian city of Maui.

This was reported by the governor of the state Josh Green in a press conference, specifying that "the budget will continue to rise, we want to prepare people for this".

The town was engulfed in flames last week. The deadliest fire in the United States this century, the death toll surpassed the record toll of the 2018 fire in Northern California, in which 85 people were killed.

Over 2,200 properties were damaged or destroyed, along with 2,170 acres of land. An estimated $5.5 billion is needed for reconstruction.

Meanwhile, the controversy over the lack of prevention and mismanagement of the emergency is growing, which has led to the opening of an official investigation.
