Goodbye color tattoos, from 4 January 2022 the bodies can only be decorated in black and white.

The reason? The EU has banned isopropanol, an ingredient that is added to color to sterilize it.

Black, white and gray are saved, the only ones without isopropanol. Some hope for a particular type of blue and one of yellow, which in any case should be banned from 2023.

Inks on the skin can irritate the eyes, dry the skin, cause damage to the nervous system. They are also potentially carcinogenic.

Many tattoo artists are on a rampage, a problem not just for a sector that in Italy produces more than half a billion euros and has 5 thousand companies, with 13 out of 100 Italians having at least one tattoo.

Controversies and protests were not long in coming, arriving primarily from Germany and Austria with a parliamentary question presented in Brussels where it is emphasized that the measure is only for precautionary purposes as there is no evidence of how harmful colors can really be.

For the moment, the EU has made an exception for two colors, “blue15” and “green7”: on these, Brussels has granted an extension of one year to find alternative solutions.
