The debate on anti-Covid measures is also underway in Germany, in light of the sharp increase in infections that has occurred in recent days, with an average of almost 13 thousand cases per day (57% more than two weeks ago).
Even today, the Robert Koch Institut has reported an increase in the weekly incidence per 100 thousand inhabitants, which has risen to 110.1. It was since last May that the rate in the country did not exceed 100.
Health Minister Jens Spahn had said in recent days that he did not want to extend the pandemic state of emergency, making it expire on November 25, but his position has now been attacked by several politicians, even among the ranks of the Social Democrats. For it to be extended, a vote in Parliament is needed and several public health officials are already pushing towards this choice.
Today the minister's spokesman stressed at a press conference that the incidence of hospitalization in Germany (per 100,000 inhabitants over seven days) remains below three patients.
However, Chancellor Angela Merkel spokeswoman Steffen Seibert explained that there are the first reports of certain surgeries being postponed in some hospitals that have slowed down due to the pandemic.
