Former Ukrainian parliament speaker Andriy Parubiy was shot dead in broad daylight on the street in Lviv.

Parubiy served as Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada from April 2016 to August 2019 and was also a leader of Euromaidan, the 2013-14 protests calling for closer ties with the European Union. The 54-year-old also served as Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council from February to August 2014, the period when fighting broke out in eastern Ukraine and Russia annexed Crimea.
