Four people were arrested in Hanover because they were preparing an explosive attack on the synagogue in Hagen, in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Among them was a 16-year-old Syrian. The police also speak of ongoing searches.

Already yesterday evening the police had mobilized in front of that synagogue on the basis of clues about a "possible dangerous situation in the building". The Yom Kippur prayer was also canceled.

"There was a risk of an attack on the synagogue in Hagen", confirmed Herbert Reul, Minister of the Interior of the German state of North Rhine Westphalia, at the swearing-in party of the young agents in Cologne. "Your colleagues and your colleagues have probably avoided it," he added, congratulating the police forces.
