For eight months she searched everywhere for him, after reporting him missing. The wife of Richard Maedge, 53, from Illinois, has never given herself peace, in an attempt to shed light on her husband's fate. Now the truth has come from the autopsy results. Because the body was found in a closet of the couple's home, mummified.

It was April 27, 2022 when Jennifer filed a missing person report. She had heard it in the afternoon, they were supposed to meet at the house, but Richard didn't show. His car was parked outside, but there was no sign of the man.

The police had searched the apartment, the operations had proved very difficult because it seems that husband and wife were two serial accumulators. But the agents found nothing.

His wife later reported the presence of strange smells in the house, and even on those occasions nothing was brought to light.

Until December when Mrs. Maedge went to recover the Christmas decorations inside a wardrobe that was rarely opened. Her husband's body was in there, mummified.

Now the definitive results of the autopsy have arrived: the man took his own life. The American media, which give wide coverage to the news, have not provided further details on the death. The coroner instead explained that the mummified bodies do not give off a smell and for this reason the discovery was made months late.
