On the occasion of the 50th National Day of the Emirates, which is celebrated on December 2, 870 detainees will be released. This was decided by the president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to "give prisoners the opportunity to rebuild their lives, contribute to society and relieve the burden of their families", writes the state news agency Wam.

In addition to freedom, the recipients of the provision will also see their debts and fines paid.

The National newspaper recalls that Emirati leaders free prisoners every year in conjunction with holidays such as Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr. It is the police and the prosecutors who compile the lists of those eligible for release, among those whose crimes are considered less serious, often financial crimes. Whoever is entitled to pardon must have served part of the sentence and demonstrated good conduct. He must not be the subject of previous leniency decisions and must have participated in rehabilitation programs run by prisons.
