Gabriel Abutbul Alon, the man accused of helping Eitan's grandfather, Shmuel Peleg, to kidnap Eitan after having taken him, during one of the periodic meetings authorized by the court, in the house of his paternal aunt, was arrested in Limysos, on the island of Cyprus, where he resides. He was identified thanks to the traces left by his cell phone.

Alon was pursued by a European arrest warrant activated by the deputy prosecutor of Pavia Mario Venditti and by the prosecutor Valentina De Stefano for the kidnapping of little Eitan Biran.

Alon is suspected, as Corriere della Sera writes, of having been part of an American agency of contractors engaged in war theaters such as Iraq and Afghanistan and used to move with the most sophisticated techniques of coverage and anonymity.

According to investigations, on 11 September Alon helped Eitan's grandfather, Shmuel Peleg, a 58-year-old former Israeli soldier, to kidnap Eitan after having taken him, during one of the periodic meetings authorized by the court, in the home of his paternal aunt, Aya Biran. , who had entrusted him since the accident of 23 May at the Mottarone cable car.

The child had been taken by car to Switzerland and from there to Israel aboard a private plane chartered in the previous days by Alon for 46 thousand euros.

Just two days after the kidnapping, at the request of the prosecutors, the investigating judge Pasquale Villani had issued a custody order which was followed by the European arrest warrant for Alon, who with this procedure could soon return to Italy, and an international arrest warrant for Peleg who, however, is unlikely to ever be executed by the Tel Aviv authorities.
