Covid, record of infections since the beginning of the pandemic in China: lockdown in the "iPhone City"
Over 30,000 infections, and Beijing "shuts down", Zhengzhou, the city that assembles 70% of Apple's smartphonesAbsolute record of Covid infections since the outbreak of the pandemic in China: according to the National Health Commission they are at 31,444 , of 27,517 asymptomatic.
Numbers that may seem "minimal" compared to what happened in other countries, including Italy, and in relation to the Chinese population. But they are very relevant in a country that still pursues a "zero tolerance" policy based on lockdowns, mass testing and quarantine.
Shanghai was blocked for two months for much less. Today, instead, Zhengzhou , the capital of Henan, the so-called "iPhone City" which assembles 70% of Apple's smartphones, ends up in lockdown .
A lockdown was ordered in several districts to bring the spread of infections under control, almost 700 in 24 hours. Residents of the center cannot leave the area unless they have a negative Covid test and permission from local authorities, who advise not to leave their homes "unless it is necessary" .
In recent days, the city has been the scene of even glaring protests, both due to the spread of the pandemic and the working conditions of the iPhone factory workers.
