Big fire this morning in the historic headquarters of the Copenhagen Stock Exchange . The alarm was raised shortly after 7.30 : "It is a very, very large fire that we are trying to put out and we will have it for a long time ," said the director of emergency management in Copenhagen, Jakob Vedsted Andersen.

The flames quickly enveloped the entire building , dating back to the 17th century and under renovation, and caused the 54 meter spire to collapse .

Located next to the Danish Parliament, Christiansborg Palace, the building housed the stock exchange until the 1970s and currently serves as the headquarters of the Danish Chamber of Commerce. Police said on X that they had blocked off some areas of the city center to fight the blaze.

We are witnessing a terrible spectacle ,” the statement from the Danish Chamber of Commerce.

The causes are currently unknown.
