At least 17 suspicious, unmarked graves have been unearthed in a former residential school in British Columbia, Canada . This was reported by the Canadianpress quoting a First Nation (a community of indigenous people) which published the results of a research on the anonymous graves identified on the grounds of the Alberni Indian Residential School, on Vancouver Island , which housed the children of at least 90 communities between 1900 and 1973.

This is not the first time that Alberni Indian Residential School has landed at the center of the scandal over the treatment of Indigenous children : In March 1995, former dormitory supervisor Arthur Henry Plint was sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexual assaults between 1948 and the 1968.

In the institution, children were then subjected to government-sanctioned "feeding experiments" without parental consent . influence of their families and assimilate them into the dominant society.

Over the past two years, the remains of hundreds of Native children buried without even names have been found in Canada , as well as 751 unmarked graves near the former Marieval Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan .

In April of last year, Pope Francis apologized for crimes committed with the complicity of the Church, and in July he traveled to Canada and met with representatives of indigenous communities.
