A strong explosion in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, killed one person, and five others were injured.

The roar, there is talk of a bomb, was recorded in a crowded area - despite the curfew in force against the coronavirus - and full of clubs and restaurants late yesterday evening.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said this morning that it was a "terrorist act", promising to hunt down those responsible.

In the past, terrorist groups headed by both Isis and Somali Al Shabaab have been active in the country.

In Uganda, the anti-Covd night curfew is in effect from 7 pm, but its application is uneven and itself violated.
