All eight people on board the cargo plane that left Nis in southern Serbia and crashed in northern Greece near Paleochori Kavalas died last night . This was announced by Serbian Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic at a press conference in Belgrade.

The aircraft, owned by the Ukrainian company Meridian Ltd, was carrying 11.5 tons of Serbian military material destined for the Bangladesh Ministry of Defense.

It left Nis at 20.40, final destination Dhaka with a technical stop in Amman, Jordan. While he was traveling between Serbia and Jordan he would have asked to be able to make an emergency landing at the Greek airport of Kavalas, without being able to reach him. Eyewitnesses claim to have seen the plane crash into flames .

The crew members did not have a chance.

The Greek authorities in the area have invited the population within a radius of two kilometers to stay indoors with the windows closed due to the possible presence on board of dangerous chemicals.

An alarm lasted a few hours, then a spokesman for the Greek fire brigade said that no dangerous materials were found at the scene of the accident . Investigations focused on a white substance found near the accident site, which raised fear of a toxic material leak.
