Eleven people died and four others were injured in a car accident in eastern Bolivia while traveling in a minibus driven by a teenager "aged between 13 and 14," police said.

The victims are believed to be seven adults and four minors, including the driver of the vehicle.

The vehicle crashed into a tree on a road near the village of Puerto Quijarro, in the department of Santa Cruz, near the border with Brazil. Some of the passengers, local authorities reported, were "apparently intoxicated."

Around 1,400 people die each year on Bolivian roads, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior, mainly due to careless drivers and mechanical failures.
