The regional councilor for environmental protection, Gianni Lampis, spoke about the “Sardinia model” on the circular economy this morning at the Legambiente Ecoforum in the lecture hall of the Engineering Faculty of the University of Cagliari. "In the last twenty years - he explained - the Region has expanded its waste planning, identifying public plant engineering throughout the territory as one of the priorities, which is essential to obtain a clear improvement in the results of separate waste collection. gave a positive opinion to over thirty projects, for over 100 million investments, presented under the Community funds of the NRP ".

Citizens gave their contribution "allowing the confirmation, also in 2020, of second place among the regions in Italy, behind Veneto, for the quantity of municipal waste collected in a differentiated manner, compared to the total quantity of waste produced, passing from 72.9% to 74.22% (+1.32) ".

"80% of separate waste collection by 2022 is an achievable goal - said Lampis -, above all through the forthcoming provision of the Giunta on 'punctual pricing' in all the municipalities of the island, which, together with the 'reward mechanism / penalties', will immediately implement the principle 'who pollutes the most pays'. Furthermore, we want to create further ecological centers and ecological islands, particularly in the inland and coastal areas of Sardinia, reverse the trend of improper transfers in the public circuit, fight the increase in urban waste to be sent directly to landfills, complete the plant infrastructure, so as to make urban waste management more effective and efficient in all phases, from collection to treatment ".
