The Chamber of Deputies rejected the motion of no confidence presented, after the case of Libyan General Almasri, by the opposition against the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio. The votes against the no confidence were 215, those in favor 119. The Action group did not follow the rest of the opposition, choosing not to participate in the vote.
«The opposition's observations are reminiscent of the pamphlets of the Inquisition – the minister said in reply – Giachetti was disappointed by the complaint he made against me as a contributor to the crime of suicides in prison, which was not followed up. When does the minister become responsible for suicides, and for what number? If even just one of the suicides had been attributable to the Minister of Justice, we would have had a whole series of trials."
And he continues: «The sword of justice is a sword without a hilt, which also hurts those who brandish it improperly and, as in this case, also hurts those who use it, especially if one tries to jurisdictionalize any political conflict».
The opposition's polemics have very often been "exaggerated in language and tone, saying for example that they want to favor the mafia or organized crime. All things that sound offensive and unpleasant. I suspect that all these attacks, which come in the most sloppy and fake ways, give the impression that this is a planned attack to avoid the reform of the separation of careers and the drawing of lots for the election of the CSM. Whatever the attacks, judicial, press or parliamentary, we will not falter and we will not hesitate: the reform goes forward and the more violent, improper and sloppy the attacks, the more determined we will be. And if you do your worst, we will do our best".
