Forty wins out of 44 matches played, equal to a 91% overall win rate, and 125 sets won out of 161 total, or 78%. These are some of the numbers that demonstrate the seasonal dominance of the two Italian national volleyball teams, as announced by the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV), in a historic year for the sport.
Julio Velasco's girls have had a perfect run, crowned by a double victory in the Nations League in Poland and the World Championships in Thailand. Alessia Orro and her teammates have won all 22 of their matches, with a streak of 36 consecutive victories. In terms of sets played in the two competitions, 66 out of 79 have been won, equal to 83%. Italy women lead the FIVB rankings with 484 points, more than 50 points ahead of Brazil (428).
Ferdinando De Giorgi's Azzurri also had an exciting run, winning silver in the 2025 Nations League in China (their first medal in the competition) and then confirming their title as world champions in the Philippines. Between the VNL and the World Championship, Simone Giannelli and his teammates have won 18 of their 22 matches.
