"Among the many reforms we have made, one has been canceled due to the responsibility of the European bureaucracy: it seems to be illegitimate to put the Rai license fee in the bill. I believe in the principle 'pay less, pay everyone'. With the fee in the bill, the expense is went from 113 euros to 90 euros and the tax evaders were forced to pay. It seemed like a good idea, what do you think? ". Thus the leader of Italia Viva, Matteo Renzi , in his weekly E-News.
The reference is to the decision to separate the payment of electricity bills from that of the TV tax, which instead under his government, in 2016, had been merged.
A choice dictated by the fact that the merger would represent an "improper burden", not envisaged by European legislation.
The change was proposed by an agenda presented by Maria Laura Paxia (Mixed Group), with reference to the Energy Decree just approved in the Chamber.
An amendment accepted by the Government first as a "recommendation" and then accepted then accepted "with reformulation" (therefore without having to be put to the vote) with the commitment to "adopt regulatory measures aimed at separating the Rai license fee from 2023".
Paxia underlined that this will "follow up on the commitment that Italy had with the European Union to unbundle the Rai license fee" as - precisely - an improper charge.
Hence the regret of the former prime minister and his entire party. "Those who ride the issue today - the comment of the deputy IV Michele Anzaldi - only try to wink at the tax evaders. The consequence will be the risk of going back to the times when only the honest paid but paid more. If you really want to commit the Government - he adds - should be asked to guarantee that the fee will not be increased in any way. I am not against the fee but the way in which Rai too often uses the fee money. information".
