The best Vermentino in Italy comes from Sardinia and is the Maìa di Siddùra, Vermentino di Gallura DOCG Superiore, which won the 30th edition of the award which took place in Diano Castello (Imperia), surpassing 125 labels present in the competition. There were more than 80 wineries from 7 Italian regions.

Maìa thus achieves another result and is by far the Sardinian wine with the most awards obtained in the last 10 years.

The company from Luogosanto works constantly on the search for suitable solutions to achieve its objectives. Siddùra wines have received over 600 national and international awards in the most prestigious and authoritative competitions in the world. And Maìa has always been the most iconic product.

The Vermentino Award was established in the mid-nineties in Liguria and is the longest-running event dedicated to this prized vine. Since 2020, the event has begun a new path and expanded its borders, with the participation of "labels" from all the areas where this vine is grown in Italy.

The president was Paolo Massobrio, journalist and author of the guide Il Golosario.

Maìa is characterized by the introduction of a new element – chosen by the oenologist Dino Dini -: the truncated conical vats. «Although it is always the territory that guarantees the quality of the Vermentino produced in Siddùra - he explains - the use of truncated conical vats starting from the fermentation has proved to be a winning choice in enhancing the aromatic characteristics of our grapes. The wine then remains in refinement in the same rooms, until late spring, in order to mature its characteristic bouquet».

Only the Maìa is worked in truncated conical vats, as the Vermentino grapes selected and harvested by hand are suitable, after a short pre-fermentation cold maceration, to complete the fermentation cycle and the subsequent refinement in contact with oak in large containers 40 and 30 hectoliters. «The wine worked in this way - concludes the Siddùra oenologist - acquires structure and character, which make it suitable also for long aging in the bottle. Vermentino, with Maìa, demonstrates once again that it is a grape suitable for giving long-lived products that improve with permanence on the lees over the long term».
