Not just any celebration: the celebration of Aunt Giovanna Maria Piga's centennial milestone in Usini was special.

When Sardinian singer Maria Giovanna Cherchi sang "No poto reposare," and few knew she was there, the town's new centenarian grandmother couldn't believe her eyes. Her passion for Sardinian music was one of the most beautiful gifts during her centenary celebrations.

Giovanna Maria Piga was celebrated and feted last night in Usini, along with her family and the entire community, with a Mass celebrated by Father Antonio Piga and a celebration in the community center. "Another of our fellow citizens has reached this milestone, which is not only a milestone in terms of age but also speaks to and reflects on us the wisdom and life experience of a woman like Aunt Giovanna Maria," said Mayor Antonio Brundu , who was present at the celebrations.

Tears of joy and emotion shed throughout the celebration, as she recalled the journey of the grandmother of Usini, filled with so many successes but unfortunately also marked by painful episodes that marked her life. "I want to thank all the people of Usini who are here with me today and wish each of you health, peace, and a long life. For better or for worse, we are in God's hands," she told those present.

Then it was the artist Maria Giovanna Cherchi, with the beauty of her voice, who captured everyone's attention. A singer who knows how to combine music with life and create moments of powerful emotion. Grandma Giovanna Maria then told jokes and recited a few ancient prayers in the Sardinian language, which she remembers by heart and still recites impeccably today.
