"A difficult tourist season ". This is how the members of Federlberghi-Confcommercio Sassari define summer 2023 , which has drawn up a balance of attendances in the various structures for the month of July . The data that emerges is alarming: -7.37% in the whole province compared to July 2022 .

The Confcommercio study center has merged all the data provided by members relating to arrivals, attendance, origin and average stay of guests in hotel accommodation facilities. "It emerges that 4,588 daily bed places were sampled for a total of 142,228 on a monthly basis - explains the association -, that national arrivals were 9,821 while international arrivals (mainly European) were 14,223 in relation to the sample under analysis". National presences were instead 36,526, those from beyond the Alps 56,410.

«Over the entire province, the room occupancy rate for the month of July 2023 was 71.81%, compared to 79.18% in July 2022 - the experts underline -. A drop of 7.37 percentage points which leads the month of July to show a downward performance even compared to July 2019 ».

According to Federalberghi, «for August, there doesn't seem to be any possibility of recovery - comments the president Stefano Visconti -. To meet the needs of our customers, promotions are underway in many accommodation facilities that can stimulate the desire for a holiday in Sardinia».

The analysis also shows an increase in the average stay that guests spend on the island . «Contrary to what we could hypothesize, the average stay, or the average days spent in the hotel, has grown from 3.74 days in July 2022 to 3.86 days in July 2023 - explains Visconti -. This data suggests that, since arrivals on the island are increasing as certified by the numbers of ports and airports, the tourist phenomenon in this phase is rewarding the non-hotel sector not exercised in the form of a business, therefore B&Bs and tourist rentals".
