Castelsardo hosts the eighth edition of the "Note Senza Tempo" International Early Music Festival. The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 4th, at 10:00 PM in Piazza della Misericordia, with the vocal group Amoris Laetitia from Caltanissetta presenting the concert "Spiritus Temporis," a captivating sonic journey through the most beautiful works of sacred and secular music.
The group directed by Laura Gallo will lead spectators through the immortal notes of masterpieces such as Exultate iusti by Ludovico da Viadana, Sicut Cervus by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, and the famous motets O magnum mysterium and O vos omnes by Tomás Luis de Victoria. The journey will unfold through the profound melancholy of Mille regretz by Josquin Desprez and the expressive freshness of Dolcissimo ben mio by Orazio Vecchi, before touching on the refined twentieth-century sounds of Veni Emmanuel by Zoltán Kodály and masterpieces by Maurice Duruflé, such as Ubi Caritas and Notre Père, concluding ideally with the intense O sacrum convivium by Luigi Molfino.
A centerpiece of the concert will be the critical rediscovery of Calabrian polyphonist Giandomenico Martoretta, active in the second half of the 16th century at the Renaissance court of Francesco I Moncada, Count of Caltanissetta. The ensemble will perform this refined composer's madrigals "Ultimi miei sospiri," "Deh dove senza me," and the distinctive "Lu zzoppu fabru, squalidu Vulcanu," offering a rare and precious comparison between the most celebrated works of musical history and the lesser-known gems of Southern Italy's polyphonic production. Founded in Caltanissetta in 2017, Amoris Laetitia has distinguished itself from its inception by rigorous study, with a repertoire ranging from the intense sonorities of Gregorian chant to contemporary choral music. Laura Gallo graduated in violin from the Palermo Conservatory and, in her impressive resume, boasts collaborations with prestigious symphony and opera institutions such as the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Rome Opera, and the Carlo Felice in Genoa. The "Note Senza Tempo" Festival, directed by Daniele Cernuto, is organized by the Dolci Accenti association with the patronage and support of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Fondazione di Sardegna, and the municipal administrations of Sassari, Porto Torres, Alghero, Uri, and Castelsardo. It is part of the "Salude&Trigu" series of events promoted by the Sassari Chamber of Commerce. To view the complete program, please visit the official website at www.notesenzatempo.it.
