Two men who allegedly blackmailed the family of multiple Ferrari Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher to extort millions have been arrested in Wuppertal, Germany. The website of the German newspaper Bild reports this without providing further details.
«We are investigating a case of extortion against a famous person and, for this case, we have executed arrest warrants. At the moment we cannot provide further information", the spokesperson of a public prosecutor's office limited himself to announcing, writes Bild, recalling that it is not the first time that the family of the pilot, victim of an accident in 2013, has suffered an extortion attempt.
In 2017, the painter Hüseyin B. (25 years old at the time) from Dettingen an der Erms (Baden-Württemberg) was sentenced by a court in Reutlingen to one year and nine months of probation for attempted extortion. Furthermore, he was given a fine of 4,500 euros and 50 hours of community service and had to undergo therapy.
A year earlier the young man had sent a "perfidious blackmail email" to Corinna Schumacher, the wife of the motoring legend - still in strictly private care and far from the media spotlight since the terrible accident of which he was the victim in 2013 - " threatening their children", the site recalls. «However, since the blackmailer acted in a particularly clumsy way, the police managed to track him down quickly», it is added, recalling that judge Eberhard Hausch - regarding the extortion technique - declared: «To put it mildly, provide your account number It's not a sensible choice."
