Last Friday, Lega Serie A announced that Roma-Cagliari will be played on Sunday 16 March at 15:00. This is the match of the twenty-ninth day, the first as a former player for Claudio Ranieri after leaving the rossoblù at the end of last season. But in Rome, on the same day, another sporting event is scheduled: the Run Rome the Marathon, the thirtieth edition of the famous Roman marathon. And this could create problems with the double date.

The marathon is scheduled to start at 8:30 on March 16. The circuit requires runners to also pass through the Foro Italico area, which is also where the Stadio Olimpico is located. And, during the Lazio and Roma matches, limitations are generally expected to manage public order . A situation that could lead to an overlap between the two events.

Due to the Europa League round of 16, with the return match against Athletic Club scheduled for three days earlier (Thursday 13 March at 18:45 in Bilbao), it is not possible to bring forward the match. Nor can it be postponed to Monday 17, because after that weekend there is the break for the national teams . And, for television reasons, it was not possible to have a postponement: at 18:00 Fiorentina-Juventus is played, in a time slot "dedicated" to matches broadcast by Sky (Roma-Cagliari is only on Dazn), at 20:45 there is the big match Atalanta-Inter.

The ball is now in the Prefecture's court, which will have to manage public order for the two events. In the event that it is not possible to guarantee this for both, a postponement of Rome-Cagliari cannot be ruled out. Although, at the moment, this hypothesis has not (yet) been taken into consideration .
