«The extraordinary example of Bonifacio Angius' artistic career, which began ten years ago with the remarkable debut film Perfidia and confirmed by the equally valuable subsequent works, represents the expressive freedom that has always been sought in the cinema presented at the TUC». Thus writes the director Alessandro Amato to explain the choice of the Torino Underground Cinfest to dedicate a retrospective to the director from Sassari.

The retrospective will be one of the special events of the eleventh edition of the festival, created and directed by the Turin director Mauro Russo Rouge, which will be held at the CineTeatro Baretti, in Turin, from 26 September to 5 October.

“Perfidia” (2014), the only Italian film in competition at the 67th Locarno Film Festival which won the Young Critics Jury Prize, will be screened on Friday 27 September; Saturday 28 “Ovunque proteggimi” (2018), presented at the 56th edition of the Torino Film Festival, which earned Angius the nomination for the Nastro d'argento for Best Subject and the nomination for the Golden Globe for the leading actress Francesca Niedda; Sunday 29 September “I giganti” (2021), of which Angius is also screenwriter, director of photography, co-star, editor and producer, which had its world premiere as the only Italian film competing in the International Competition at the 74th edition of Locarno Film Festival, and which guaranteed Angius the award for Best Director at the 2021 Annecy Cinema Italien Festival.

The director from Sassari commented on social media: «I am honored and happy with this retrospective. Especially if we consider that I am absolutely not a decrepit old man. I sincerely thank those who thought of giving me this beautiful gift, which has opened a ray of sunshine inside me."
