While we wait for the July program, the Tavolara Film Festival "A Night in Italy" offers a tasty appetizer. The 36th edition of the event, organized by the Argonauti Association, with artistic direction by Gianluca Arcopinto and Neri Marcorè, and photography by Antonio Maraldi, will take place from July 14th to 19th in San Teodoro, Porto San Paolo, and the island of Tavolara. Meanwhile, June will offer a tasty preview.
A seminar dedicated to film music, a special screening in Porto Rotondo, and a film concert in Porto San Paolo are scheduled. The program begins on June 13th and 14th in Olbia, at the Argonauti Polytechnic, with "Music for Film," an overview of the art of film music, including historical notes, practical examples, and guided listening sessions. Leading the seminar—with free admission, subject to availability—will be Luigi Frassetto, musician and composer, a longtime festival collaborator.
On June 21st, the Mario Ceroli Amphitheater in Porto Rotondo will screen "Némos. Andando per mare," a Sardinian reinterpretation of the myth of Ulysses. The film begins at 9:00 p.m., with an introduction by director Marco Antonio Pani and the event organizers. Admission is free.
Finally, on June 27, again at 9 pm, in Porto San Paolo's Piazza Gramsci, the film-concert "Metropolis" will take place (ticket: €2, plus €1 advance booking fee). Fritz Lang's masterpiece will be screened with live music performed by Pietro Dossena and Manuel Attanasio, with music by Luigi Frassetto. Nearly a century after its release, the film by the great Austrian director continues to speak powerfully to the present: the futuristic city imagined by Lang, divided between the ruling classes and the working masses, remains one of the twentieth century's great visions of the relationship between power, labor, technology, and inequality. Proceeds will be donated to charity.
