Rare find in south-central England. In the Cotswolds area, the remains of five mammoths from the ice age have been discovered in an "extraordinary" state of conservation.
They are two adults, two young people and a puppy. The skeletons, which date back to around 200,000 years ago, were unearthed near Swindon, Wiltshire, along with tools used by the Neanderthals, who likely hunted these 10-ton beasts.
It will now be a BBC One documentary to present the discovery in the film entitled "Attenborough and the Mammoth Graveyard" which will air on December 30th. British documentarian David Attenborough and evolutionary biologist Ben Garrod join archaeologists from the DigVentures organization to film the excavation.
But experts agree that the Cotswolds will be the site of further mammoth remains because only a gravel pit has been explored for now, while the site is very large.
