A feature film that analyzes the relationship between the growing social affirmation of women and the increase in male sexual violence. This is one of the themes on which the film "The People of Women" focuses, by director Yuri Ancarani, who also stops on the island to present his work. Two days full of events for the filmmaker who, on 12 and 13 April, will be in Cagliari, Carbonia, Orani and Sassari.

The film tour arrives in Sardinia after the great success in other Italian cities. The first appointment will be held on Friday 12 April at the Fabbrica del Cinema di Carbonia (Fabio Masala room). At 5pm in the room (free entry) the director Yuri Ancarani will be present for the "Primavera in sala" review organized by Csc Carbonia of the Società Umanitaria, Circolo Arci La Gabbianella Fortunata and Ucca - Unione Circoli Circoli Cinematografici Arci. The director will move to the Cinema Odissea in Cagliari at 9pm on the same day. The next day, Saturday 13 April, at 5pm (free entry), he will be at the Nivola museum in Orani . While on the same day, at 9.30pm it will move to the Cityplex Moderno in Sassari for a screening with the author by the Diritti al Cuore network.

The protagonist of the documentary film is Dr. Marina Valcarenghi , psychotherapist and psychoanalyst, with a past in journalism, politics during the Sixties and Seventies, and with forty-five years of clinical work behind her. From this latest experience, still ongoing, Valcarenghi was able to observe how female insecurity survives, despite the progressive conquest of economic and social autonomy, and understood the reasons. She was the first to introduce psychoanalysis into prison, in the Opera and Bollate penitentiaries, working for twelve years in the male isolation wards with prisoners mostly convicted of crimes of sexual violence.

The collaboration between the artist Yuri Ancarani and Marina Valcarenghi was born on the occasion of the creation of Atlantide (2021, 104'), presented at the Venice International Film Festival in 2021, in the Orizzonti section. As with Atlantide which saw the participation of rapper and producer Sick Luke, the soundtrack of the latest cinematographic "effort" also bears the signature of one of the most interesting talents of the contemporary Italian music scene: the composer and musician Caterina Barbieri .

Marina Valcarenghi's voice, with the pauses in her speech, sets the pace of the film. His words retrace excerpts of testimonies from violent men, collected in courts, during interviews in prison or during sessions in his office. Reflections on the relational dynamics of the last thirty years of Italian history mix with memories linked to the work of analysis, bringing to light society's fears linked to the dichotomy between women and men and the outbreak of private, physical and verbal violence.

The tour in Sardinia coordinated by Alessandro Toscano and Antonella Panu in collaboration with the Barz and Hippo distribution is made possible thanks to the Sardinian Homosexual Movement and the Diritti al Cuore di Sassari network, the Fipe-Confcommercio Sud Sardegna and the Ccn Corso Vittorio Emanuele Cagliari in collaboration with Csc Carbonia of the Humanitarian Society, the Circolo Arci La Gabbianella Fortunata and Ucca, the Arci Cinematographic Clubs Union and the Nivola Museum.

«As vice president of the CCN Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Councilor of the Municipality of Pirri, I always gladly promote cultural initiatives that stimulate social reflection», said Ornella Porcedda, vice president of the CCN Corso Vittorio Emanuele. «The film "Il Popolo delle Donne" by Yuri Ancarani, together with the testimony of doctor Marina Valcarenghi, carries forward a crucial discussion on the gender dynamics dictated by female fragility and toxic masculinity. The film tour, supported by important cultural initiatives, has demonstrated widespread interest and we are certain that it will be a great success here in Sardinia too."

«Our federation is proud and happy to host initiatives of this type which bring increasingly current issues back to the national and therefore regional spotlight», say the representatives of Fipe Confcommercio Sud Sardegna, «these stages are intended as a tribute to our colleagues».

«The network of Diritti al Cuore associations – this is one of their declarations – is pleased to include this screening within the path dotted with events and training and information initiatives that it has been promoting in the area for years with the aim of giving an increasingly strong signal to combat gender violence. The associations Movimento Omosexual Sardo, NOIdonne 2005, Alisso, CCS Borderline, Earth Gardeners, Theater en vol, Arci Nord Sardegna, ANPI Sassari, Ponti non muri, 4Caniperstrada, Franco Mura Onlus, Non Una di Meno Nord Sardegna, Emergency Sassari, Associazione Italia Cuba, African Union Sardegna and S'ALA are certain that this too can be an important opportunity for reflection and awareness offered to the city thanks also to the collaboration with the Ci-nema Cityplex Moderno".

Presented as part of the XX edition of the Giornate degli Autori in the Special Screenings / Meetings with the authors section, on the occasion of the Venice International Film Festival 2023, IL POPOLO DELLE DONNE (60', Italy, 2023) is produced by Dugong Films, in collaboration with the PAC Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea and ACACIA – Associazione Amici Arte Contemporanea Italiana, and distributed by Barz and Hippo.
