One of the capitals of world sailing, the place "where many athletes come to cultivate their Olympic dream", as the president of the Ika (International Kiteboarding Association), Mirco Babini, says. Cagliari hosts the last stage of the Kitefoil World Series until Saturday and is preparing to elect the winner, with a final formula that could be the one that will be adopted in Los Angeles 2028.
At Poetto (Sesta Fermata) the month of great sailing (under the common name adopted by the Federvela of “Sardinia Sailing Cup”), which began with the Italian Olympic class championships, continues with the spectacular discipline that made its Olympic debut in Paris 2024. From Marseille there will be the bronze medalist, Max Maeder, Swiss from Singapore, and Riccardo Pianosi, the Italian who finished fourth. Many world big names, in addition to the best Italians, from Lorenzo Boschetti to Maggie Pescetto.
The support of the Region is timely (with the Tourism Department that uses sporting events to promote the Island especially in the shoulder seasons) and of the Municipality that sees in the combination of sport and environment an opportunity for valorization and development.
The eighth edition of the Sardinia Grand Slam, the seventh for Cagliari since 2017 (with the interruption of 2020), will be an opportunity for athletes to test new materials that, in the future, could receive the ok for use at the Olympics. The organization is signed by GLE Sport (in collaboration with the Chia Wind Club and under the aegis of Ika and Fin).
