The Girotonno returns to Carloforte, the start with the international challenge between chefs

A gastronomic challenge between chefs from 4 countries, cooking shows with great protagonists, tastings , meetings and entertainment in the name of quality bluefin tuna that has been fished for centuries in the trap of the island of San Pietro, in Sardinia.
From 2 to 5 June 2022 the " Girotonno - Men, stories and flavors on the tuna routes" returns to Carloforte , in its eighteenth edition .
The millenary culture linked to tuna and tuna traps, which is expressed here in a centuries-old fishing tradition that has been renewed since 1738 , the year the town was founded, is the common element of a unique event of its kind that involves gastronomes, renowned chefs international, experts in tuna cooking, journalists and experts in Mediterranean gastronomy, nominating Carloforte as " Capital of quality tuna ".
The central moment will be the international gastronomic competition , the International Tuna Competition, in which chefs from Italy, Japan, Colombia and Lebanon will participate with recipes based on cooked and raw tuna. The start tomorrow at 18 with the challenge between Italy and Lebanon. The Italian team competing will be led by Davide Atzeni , chef and patron of Coxinendi, the restaurant in front of the castle of Sanluri, in the heart of Medio Campidano, and Mauro Ladu , chef patron of the Abbamele tavern in Mamoiada. Representing Lebanon there will be Richard Abou Zaki, chef and patron of the Retroscena restaurant in Porto San Giorgio (Fermo), a Michelin star, a mix of different cultures but with strong roots in Emilia where he grew up as a child.
Following, from 9.30 pm, the confrontation between Japan and Colombia. Friday 3 will be the turn of Lebanon - Japan and Colombia - Italy. Saturday 4, the last confrontation before the awarding of the winners, the match in the kitchen will be between Colombia - Lebanon and Italy - Japan.
A technical jury chaired by Paolo Marchi , creator of Identità golose, tasted the recipes in the competition. Among others also Roberto Giacobbo , host of the program Freedom, the journalists Andrea Radic, Anna Maria De Luca and Lorenzo Frassoldati and the chef Stefano De Gregorio.
To conduct all the appointments on stage will be Federico Quaranta and Valentina Caruso .
A popular jury will also vote at the Girotonno , who will be able to decide the best dish by purchasing the participation ticket and voting with numbered palettes.
