The Catalan of Alghero becomes an EU certified language. His knowledge will therefore be classified like any other language in Europe, within the common framework of reference for the knowledge of languages (CEFR), the internationally recognized descriptive system for assessing language skills.
For now, the certification is provisional and is applied by the Municipality of Alghero thanks to an agreement signed with the Region which authorized the stipulation of the agreement with the Generalitat de Catalunya and with the University of Sassari.
A historic milestone for Catalan - which has its own linguistic standard of reference approved since 2003 and adopted by the municipal council in May 2021 -, "a first very important victory for all - comments the mayor, Mario Conoci - which comes later of a careful activity in the sector of linguistic policies that the administration has implemented also thanks to the collaboration with the Generalitat de Catalunya and the University of Sassari that accompany us in this first and concrete phase of safeguarding our linguistic heritage ".
Meanwhile, the Region has published the public notice that will constitute a title of admissibility for the registration of the list of teachers who will carry out teaching activities in the Hungarian language for the public competition for the identification of the operators of the regional language desk and to be able to teach in quality of qualified external teachers.
