The Carmen Melis is becoming an opera house, for a limited number of performers. The "mystic gulf," the area where the orchestra is located during opera performances, will be inaugurated.
Marking the new direction of the Cagliari Lirico Theater, which has hosted concerts and conferences for three years, the performance of "The Queen of the North" will be held on March 4th at 8:00 PM. This opera, written specifically for children and young adults, is also by Giacomo Riggi, and also features the libretto, but will appeal to audiences of all ages.
A contemporary work, freely inspired by Andersen's famous fairy tale "The Snow Queen." The story of Gerda, who after a series of adventures saves her friend Kay, whose heart is stolen by the Snow Queen's icy power, unfolds through moving images, video projections, and references to the world of the cartoon, creating a dreamlike, fairytale dimension. It is one of the events in the "Rotte sonore" series.
Jacopo Rivani, a young conductor with a well-established and acclaimed career, conducts the Lirico Orchestra and the Cagliari Conservatory Children's Choir, trained by Francesco Marceddu. Lorenzo Giossi, a young and talented artist from Bologna, is responsible for the direction, sets, costumes, lighting, and visual concept of this new production of the Lirico. This is his Cagliari debut.
The cast includes Giulia Cuccu/Maica Spiga (Gerda); Davide Laconi/Michele Scano (Kay); Martina Serra (The Snow Queen); Luana Spìnola (The Lady of the Flowers); Leonardo Diana/Alessandro Ligas (Kamo); Matilde Sanna/Beatrice Catte (Mylla); Simeone Latini (The Robber); Marta Proietti Orzella (The Robber's Daughter/Karson); Michela Atzeni (Gerda's Grandmother/The Reindeer).
