The wines were almost 19,000, coming from 54 different countries. The 250 tasters of the Decanter World Wine Awards 2022 they evaluated them blindly, without being influenced by packaging or color, but relying only on smell and taste. Only 50 wines have obtained the prestigious " Best in show ", the top of the awards. Behind France with 10 products, Italy with 8 wines: between a Chianti, a Brunello di Montalcino and an Amarone there is also the Cagnulari Isola dei Nuraghi IGT from Cantine Chessa di Usini .

The blind tasting showed that “ from an organoleptic point of view it recalls the Mediterranean scrub and the most exciting aromas of the land of Sardinia. On the palate it is soft and enveloping, the structure is vigorous and at the same time refined with delicate hints of red fruits ". Ninety-seven points in total collected after passing first the Gold medal and then the Platinum one.

Giovanna Chessa, owner of a winery that boasts over sixty years of history in wine production, commented: “I think it has been awarded for the particularities that are so reminiscent of our territory. The fact that a vine totally unknown outside the island is given prestige fills us with pride . Given its complexity, a lot of effort is needed to obtain satisfactory results. We believed in it a lot and this result really pays off ”.

At the Decanter World Wine Awards 2022, Cantine Chessa shone further by winning two silver medals with the Vermentini DOC “Once upon a time” and “Mattariga” , and a bronze medal with the Cannonau DOC “Gemmanera”.
