It was the most voted FAI “place of the heart” in Sardinia in 2021. And today the building complex of the Tempio Pausania railway station , built between 1929 and 1931, is ready to come back to life.

A loan of 800 thousand euros was allocated for the renovation and recovery of the works of art, after the identification of the Arst, former manager of the railway complex, as the "implementing body beneficiary of the financing for the renovation and recovery of the building , restoration of the canvases and improvement of the station and the railway ".

“The complex of the Tempio Pausania railway station - underlines the regional councilor for culture, Andrea Biancareddu - represents an important example of architectural value of the building typology, being one of the most significant and representative of the entire regional territory. The station complex has its most valuable original nucleus in the travelers' building divided into two levels above ground, which retains the original constructive characteristics, as well as the furnishings of the time and is characterized on the outside by the presence of a shelter with iron uprights, sheet metal edges and corrugated sheet roofing on the underlying plank, while inside the various rooms the precious waiting room of the station occupies an important role where the paintings by Giuseppe Biasi , one of the greatest exponents of the Sardinian painting of the twentieth century ".

In agreement with the Councilor for Local Bodies and Urban Planning, Biancareddu still remembers, “we have decided to renovate a historical engineering work . In the same complex there is also the service building built in the same period as the travelers building and the square, as well as the workshops that stand next to it, once used for the maintenance of trains and now transformed into the 'Museum of the Ancient Railway Workshop' ".

The renovation work will therefore be aimed, on the one hand, at resolving the problems of decay encountered in the various buildings, and on the other hand at enhancing the architectural and artistic qualities present.

At the moment, the Arst has a definitive-executive project aimed at carrying out the extraordinary maintenance works of the complex and which concerns, among other things, the conservative restoration of the passenger building including the shelter, as well as the extraordinary maintenance of the toilets and of the square.

"The project - continues Biancareddu -, which has also acquired the authorization from the territorially competent Superintendency, needs to be extended and adapted to the entire railway station complex in order to implement a wider intervention that can restore the 'entire architectural complex but also the artistic assets present, namely the paintings of Giuseppe Biasi, to full usability and enhancement ".

Of the 5 paintings by Giuseppe Biasi located in the travelers building, only one is currently being restored by the municipal administration of Tempio Pausania, the remaining paintings will have to be recovered.
