Gregorio Paltrinieri won the silver medal and Domenico Acerenza the bronze in the 5km long-distance race at the Japan Swimming World Championships.
Gold went to reigning German champion Florian Wellbrock, who repeated the 10km title. Fourth compatriot Oliver Klemet. The other protagonists of the eve, including the Hungarian Kristof Rasovszky seventh.
«I'm very happy, I didn't even imagine I'd do well, I put my all into it. It weighs me not to win, I'm too sorry, I get paranoid, it's like a personal matter that makes me angry when things go wrong. Wellbrock didn't want to let him go, usually I'm not happy for a second place, but this time this medal clears all my doubts and I realize I'm strong. I didn't have high expectations but it went well», said Paltrinieri, who was disappointed after the bad race in the 10 kilometers.
Both on the podium therefore the "brothers" of Italian cross-country swimming. Excellent visiting card for the Paris 2024 Olympics, where Italy presents itself as one of the great protagonists of pool and cross-country swimming and which are probably the last great goal of Greg, one of the best swimmers in Italian history.
