Superbike drama: accident on the Jerez circuit, Vinales' cousin dies at 15
First the fall, then some bikes that came behind him hit him, leaving him no way out
First an accident at Turn 1 of the Jerez circuit caused him to crash, then other competitors arriving at full speed hit him, leaving him no way out.
Dean Berta Vinales, Spanish rider, cousin of Maverick, MotoGP rider with Aprilia, died just 15 years old.
The young man sustained severe head and chest injuries. Medical vehicles arrived immediately and Viñales was rescued on the track, in an ambulance and at the circuit medical center. But there was nothing to be done.
The young man was competing in a race in the Supersport 300 category, he was on lap 11.
All the activities scheduled for today have been canceled on the Spanish circuit of Jerez de la Frontera after the dramatic accident: Race 1 of the Superbike and Supersport 600 canceled.
Immediately after the accident, when everyone saw that the very young driver had been run over, frost fell on the paddock of the Spanish circuit. The TV connection was also interrupted, everyone thought the worst. And shortly after, the official Superbike communiqué arrived announcing the rider's death.
