From 1882 to the present day. Tomorrow, Sunday 16 April , the Murgia Liquori distillery is offering two guided tours of the heart of the factory where the historic “Villacidro Giallo Murgia” liqueur was born (in the morning at 11 and in the afternoon at 4.30), on the occasion of the “Giogus and Tempus antigus” organized by the Pro Loco and the youth council of Villacidro.

«For organizational and space reasons, it is necessary to book the visit: the group of twenty people in the afternoon is already complete», specifies the guide, Genny Manca.

A fascinating journey that starts from the life of Gennaro Murgia , chemist and founder of the Murgia steam distilleries which have been established since 1882 right in the center of the town, just behind the public wash house. The entrepreneur's profound knowledge of chemistry and herbalism has given life to liqueurs and bitters that have made the history of Sardinian distillates , among which the yellow and white Villacidro stand out, the Sardinian Amaro, the Alkermes up to the Rhum and white mint.

Currently, the production of the historic yellow liqueur of Villacidro is managed by the grandchildren of Gennaro, Francesca and Alessandro Murgia .

«During the guided tour we will accompany guests through the areas of the factory, to discover the history of the distillery and the phases of production of the liqueurs», says Francesca Murgia. «Once even the wooden crates and bottles were produced here, in a carpentry area now in disuse. We have kept most of the equipment and tools, collected in a small museum where we keep the historical memory of the company and our family. We would like to share a moment of exchange and comparison with visitors, their memories linked to our liqueurs , perhaps during the aperitif moment that closes the guided tour», he concludes.
