The League's amendment on the third term of governors fails to pass : in the Senate Constitutional Affairs Committee, the proposal received only 5 votes in favor (in addition to the League, Italia Viva and the representative of the Autonomies) and 15 against . The president of the Committee Alberto Balboni (FdI) and the senator of FdI Domenico Matera abstained.
"Our position is absolutely clear, it is the fifth time that we have presented the amendment, there was also a hypothesis of a potential agreement that was not found and with bitterness I must say that today it was rejected for the fifth time . However, I believe that the third mandate is right not only at the level of the Regions and Provinces with special statutes, but also for the ordinary ones", said the Minister for Regional Affairs Roberto Calderoli .
"Absolutely nothing is happening," FI cuts short, which has always disagreed with the Northern League proposal but denies that there will be repercussions in the majority . "It's not that the center-right is based on the third mandate, our coalition is based on political agreements, on justice issues, on the reform of the premiership, on the reform of autonomy, therefore on serious and important issues," declares Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani .
Maurizio Gasparri also rules out consequences for the coalition, while the Democratic Party underlines the split: "The government majority is deeply divided. In recent months we have witnessed deals between the right-wing parties that have led to a scandalous barter in which each would take home a little something: Brothers of Italy the premiership, the League differentiated autonomy and Forza Italia the justice reform. But politics is not done this way, in contempt of institutions and citizens. The system devised by the majority is leaky and what happened today with the rejection of the amendment on the third mandate, presented by a League left alone by its allies , is clear proof of this", declare the Democratic Party senators in the Constitutional Affairs Commission Andrea Giorgis, Dario Parrini, Valeria Valente and Marco Meloni.
