Luis Enrique is no longer the coach of the Spanish national team. The head coach was exempted from his post after La Roja's defeat, in the round of 16 match lost on penalties, against Morocco.

The decision was communicated to the coach by both president Luis Rubiales and sporting director José Francisco Molina.

Appointed in 2018 , Luis Enrique had taken a break between March and November 2019 following the death of his daughter. Subsequently, after resuming the helm of the team, he led Spain to the semi-finals of the European Championships and the final of the Nations League. Then the adventure in Qatar, which ended well below expectations.

The name of his replacement has not yet been announced. The Iberian Football Federation, in a note, thanked Luis Enrique and all his technical staff at the helm of the national team in recent years for the work done.
