Plot twist . Jannik Sinner has recalled Umberto Ferrara as his athletic trainer. Ferrara was removed last August due to the Clostebol scandal, which led to a three-month layoff for the world number one.
"The decision was made in consultation with Jannik's management team, as part of ongoing preparations for upcoming tournaments, including the Cincinnati Open and the US Open. Umberto has played a key role in Jannik's development to date, and his return reflects a renewed focus on consistency and top-level performance ," a statement from the South Tyrolean's staff read.
The contamination occurred during a massage given to Sinner by Giacomo Naldi, who had a finger injury that he had treated with Trofodermin, an ointment containing Clostebol purchased from Ferrara . Both Naldi and Ferrara were removed. Now, after removing Panichi on the eve of Wimbledon, Sinner has recalled Ferrara .
The trainer will be present starting tomorrow, when the champion resumes training in Monte Carlo. Naldi, however, will not be there.
