Trexenta rediscovers the passion for archeology .
After a very long wait , excavation activities have finally resumed in the nuragic area of Santu Teru (San Teodoro), in the countryside of Senorbì . The knowledge of the site is linked only to the fortuitous discovery , which took place in 1841, of a bronze statuette (the miles cornutus) depicting a nuragic warrior characterized by a helmet with long horns. The new investigations will be able to deepen the hypothesis of the presence on the site of a sacred area linked to the cult of water.
A team of archaeologists arrived in Senorbì who were entrusted with the study and investigation operations of the important site in Monte Luna and Santu Teru, in the area under study from 1977 to 1982. Of the necropolis, leaning against the slopes of the nearby hill of Monte Luna, more than 100 tombs have been excavated . The most attested type of tomb is the "well" one, with lateral chambers open on the short sides, even if there are variants.
The headquarters of the team of scholars was set up in the Villa Aresu , the ancient manor house in the Sisini hamlet.
“We trust that new and important data will help us to reconstruct the history of an ancient site still to be discovered ”, underlines the mayor Alessandro Pireddu .
The project was born from the collaboration between the municipal administration of Senorbì, the University of Cagliari and the Superintendence of Archaeological Heritage. In the coming days a visit to the excavations will be proposed to make the community participate in the work done.
