Sardinia is among the black sheep regions in Italy (and also in Europe) for levels of education and training.
This is what emerges from an analysis by the Art. 49 Foundation Study Center presented at the event “InClasse: roots for the future - Learning, understanding, participating, to raise aware citizens”, held in Rome.
The study highlights how the European Union Strategy 2030 sets as a target the reduction to 9% of early school leaving , with a lower secondary qualification at most. Italy, however, is today one of the 10 countries that does not respect this limit and is fifth in the negative in the EU with a rate of 10.5% of early school leaving, behind Romania, Spain, Germany and Hungary.
In particular, the analysis highlights, Sardinia and Sicily are the worst regions with a school dropout rate of 17.3% and 17.1% respectively , followed by the autonomous province of Bolzano (16.2%). But the two largest islands are also the two Italian regions among the 20 worst in the European Union: Sardinia is 14th and Sicily 17th.
