The first issue of Freeman , a comic series, will be released on newsstands on October 25th. was born in 2018 on the pages of Skorpio from the pen of Gianluca Piredda with drawings by Vincenzo Arces.
"Freeman is a historical western "on the road" that tells the story of the escape of a slave (Theo) accused of a crime he did not commit. An escape like many others that, however, triggers a chain reaction of events that will upset the lives of the individual characters in this series", explains the author, writer and journalist, 48 years old, from Sassari.

Piredda made his debut in the early 1990s in the Italian independent market, before landing on the American market at the end of the decade. "Theo's journey is the pretext to tell the story of an America that would soon change. The story of a people, of the oppression they suffered, of the escapes of those who wanted to find freedom and of the clandestine networks that were created. Of the betrayals that the fugitives suffered. Of the way in which public opinion began to perceive slavery five years after its abolition. And of the music that was born in those years", continues the author. Each story features the lyrics of a song from the time: mostly spirituals, gospel, sometimes cowboy songs. These lyrics are important for understanding the historical period, since many of them contained precise instructions for the runaway slaves. Each episode ends with an aphorism.
Freeman's series will be part of the "Lanciostory & Skorpio comics classics" series and will be released in newsstands and bookstores on October 25.
