Tore Piana , former regional councilor and current president of the Agricultural Studies Center , will not run for the position of mayor of Sassari at the helm of the "Sassari Unita" list.

Piana himself announced it , explaining that the proposal coming from the committee promoting the list and endorsed by him would risk dispersing the votes that could go in favor of other candidates .

A decision , the one taken by Piana and his supporters, which comes after the discussions held in particular with the rector Gavino Mariotti , candidate for mayor of the centre-right, with the provincial secretary of the Democratic Party Giuseppe Mascia , supported by the broad camp, and with the former magistrate Mariano Brianda , definitively on the field since yesterday at the helm of the Constituent Assembly for Sassari.

The choice not to compete with Manuel Pirino , who launches the challenge together with the Generazione Sassari list, Giuseppe Palopoli, creator of the Sassari Svegliati movement, but above all with Nicola Lucchi, invested by the civic group that governs the city to succeed Nanni Campus, is striking , which Tore Piana has always rejected peremptorily.

«The situation in Sassari is dramatic, it is a city without a leading role for north-west Sardinia, and this is no longer acceptable», says Piana. «A burst of pride from the citizens is necessary to allow Sassari to return to being the point of reference for the area», he insists.

«My candidacy was born from the desire to offer an alternative, but after meetings with other mayoral candidates, all deserving and respectable figures, I consider it essential to avoid fragmenting the vote - he comments - and for the sole good of the city and its territory I renounce and withdraw my candidacy for mayor of Sassari."
