A busy month begins for the Masons' Guild in Sassari . The association, one of the oldest in Sassari with 223 years of history, celebrated its co-patron saint, Saint Mary Magdalene, yesterday in the Cathedral with a mass officiated by Father Francesco Marruncheddu . Like every year, the Guild renewed its social calling with the drawing of the Angels' Dowry , a gift intended for a couple about to get married. This time, the gift will be received by two parishioners of the Church of Gesù Buon Pastore.

The Masons, led by President Antonio Pistidda, then presented three awards to Alessandro Manzoni, Matteo Fonnesu, and elected member Tore Langiu, for his twenty years of membership in the Guild. As is well known , the figure of Saint Mary Magdalene is linked to the legend of the miraculous water when, on the night between July 21st and 22nd, devotees would gather in the convent in front of the Cathedral, asking for grace and knocking three times on the door.

Then they would go to the old watering hole and bathe their eyes in the fountain water, certain that at midnight it would turn white and have healing powers, although there was more than a hint that the friars had externally manipulated the color. Meanwhile, the Masons' Guild's big celebration was approaching, to be held in early August, again at the Cathedral, in anticipation of the Faradda on August 14th.
