Almost 87 million euros per year. It is the total amount spent by Sardinian patients for treatment outside the region.
This is what emerges from the latest report on "Health Mobility" by the Gimbe Foundation , which underlines how the Island is able to attract health services (i.e. patients who come to the Island from outside for treatment) for 22 million euros a year , but how, on balance, the balance is negative by almost 65 million euros .
In the report, Sardinia is placed in the "moderate negative balance" band, together with Umbria (-31.2 million), Marche (-38.5), Liguria (-69.5), Basilicata (-83.5 million).
The regions with the most "significant" negative balance are Abruzzo (108 million) and Calabria (over 282 million euros).
The Foundation also underlines how "health mobility" costs the individual Sardinian resident (if the total expense is divided by the number of inhabitants) over fifty euros per year. From "active" mobility, around ten euros each enter the pockets of Sardinians. Even in this case, therefore, the balance is negative: minus forty euros per capita.
Furthermore, the report highlights, the provision of hospitalizations and specialist services by private mobile facilities has a very different "weight" between the various regions. Only 16.4 percent of those arriving in Sardinia from other regions turn to private facilities. Data very far from Molise (90.5%), Puglia (73.1%), Lombardy (71.2%) and Lazio (64.1%). In the same region, the attractiveness of the private sector for ordinary hospitalizations and day hospitals (in Sardinia over 15 percent) does not always coincide with those of specialist outpatient clinics (over 21 percent).
