He had started with jazz and blues in the 1950s, but after a decade he devoted himself to Sassari folk music: a precursor and point of reference, Tony Del Drò even sold 800 thousand copies with "La mirinzana".
36 years after his death, his son Piero pays homage to him with a CD entitled "Carrera" which involved some Sardinian artists: Beppe Dettori, Francesco Pilu (voice of Cordas et Cannas), Soleandro, Claudio Caggiari, Giovanni Carboni, Alessandra Luzzu , Giacomo Doro, Gabriele Masala, Andrea Poddighe (former Choir of the Angels), Enzo Mugoni, Mariano Melis, Alverio Cau, Cecilia Concas, Rinaldo Bagella and Angelo Delogu.
The other peculiarity is that the famous motifs sung by Tony Del Drò have been translated into Spanish, with new arrangements by Gianluca Gadau and the supervision of Eddy Mattey. And so, for example, “La mirinzana” has become la berenjena, “Drommi drommi Cicita drommi” is Duerme, duerme. His son Piero explains: “I wanted to recover the memory of what my father did, who should also have collaborated with Fabrizio De Andrè. Next Christmas the CD will also be presented in Spain, in a theater, thanks to the collaboration with Sardinian clubs ”.
