A wind tower depot – and more – instead of containers.
This time, the invasion of renewables has spread to the canal port of Cagliari, where a company would like to obtain a concession on a part of the dock to transform it into a hub for blades and large plants related to the world of energy to be shipped all over the world.
The project, which has been under wraps until now, has come to light in the last few hours and has already received the first positive opinion from the Sardinia Sea Authority, which is moving forward with the procedure to change the port master plan and adapt it to the new intended use.
But the unions are ready to put up barricades: they speak of a "dangerous hypothesis" and are afraid that in this way the resumption of freight traffic in the industrial port will be prevented.
The request for the concession is from Nuova Icom, a company specialized in the construction of large offshore plants – Saipem is one of the main clients – which has its warehouses a few meters from the docks. The company declares 700 employees and a 500 million induced income linked to the project, and a few days ago it officially asked the port authority to entrust 250 meters of the pier.
