A 55-year-old and a 51-year-old from Campania, together with other accomplices, contacted the elderly woman from Villaurbana: "Her daughter had an accident, she hit a pregnant woman with her car. If she wants to avoid arrest she must pay."

The two arrested then showed up at the woman's house, one introducing himself as a carabiniere, the other as a lawyer, and forced the victim to hand over gold jewelry, including wedding rings. The military, through the analysis of the video surveillance systems in the area, identified the car and the features of one of the criminals, immediately sending the search to the territorial commands and police headquarters on the island.

Cagliari Mobile Squad personnel, guessing their intentions, carried out a long stakeout in front of the ship headed to Civitavecchia , tracking down the car, with the two extortionists on board, in the access area to the port.
